Millie on the Fainting Couch (3-1-14) SOLD

"Millie," Ink & Marker on 8 1/2" x 11" Bristol, $39.95

Okay, so laugh all you want, but I'm going to reveal one of my favorite sources for aesthetic inspiration.  When Tobie started to plan for our wedding, she had freebie subscriptions to bridal magazines.  So, we chucked the copies that had the stinky perfume advertisements, and put the remaining issues in my studio.  Come on, think about it!  Three hundred pages of gorgeous girls with gorgeous dresses and gorgeous hair posing in gorgeous settings, all lavishly photographed with great composition and lighting.  What's not to like about that?

  1. Makes a lotta sense, really. And to be honest, there IS something quite attractive about a trussed up bride, too.

  3. Love it...I'd say that's a most creative source for inspiration...it certainly has yielded a very sweet, appealing and modestly erotic drawing here. I imagine I would have tossed the nasty perfume ads too...kind of makes you wonder...

A lovely piece, not unlike the recent Kelsie drawing...this one having an almost Scarlett O'Hara appeal to it, more straight southern than gothic as with Kelsie, though southern and gothic are certainly not mutually exclusive. Looking forward to seeing more along these lines.

Anyway, loosely building upon the thoughts of ArikMan, this is going to be some honeymoon!

    1. Yeah, now I just need to find some fashion magazines without having to go out and buy them.

    1. Holy schnikes! June is bustin' out all over. (Classically beautiful drawing, Andy. You are becoming more prolific than Gauguin in his fertile period. . . even though this echoes Degas or *Olympia*) Whoa.

    2. Impressive! Whoever she is, does her dress always ride like that once her glass is half empty?
