Tina Loves the Leather (2-28-14) SOLD

"Tina," Ink & Marker on 8 1/2" x 11" Bristol, $34.95

This one was inspired by flipping through an illustrated "bondage toy catalog" from 1980 that I bought a couple of years ago and forgot about.  Great stuff, I wish I could find another one.

Also wish I could figure out how to adjust my scans better, the background is actually a lot darker than that.  Hrmm.

  1. Definitely an interesting way she seems to "blend" with the backdrop!

    1. Thanks! I was going for a sort of "graphic arts" approach, and I'm glad it worked out.

  2. Oh, don't we all?

While inspired by a vintage catalog, I would say that another inspiration could very well be classical Greek art! By that I mean Tina's pose here, at least in her upper body, is reminiscent of the classical "contrapposto" pose used by the Greeks to show dynamic tension (and wow, is that the case here!). This piece is very sculptural, as if she is perched on a pedestal...indeed, her lower body functions in some regards as that pedestal! The "S" curve of her upper body, aligned with the sway in the chain and her hair creates a dynamic and wonderful sense of movement, which is both tense and relaxed, oddly enough. And as bornis moe points out, the strongly graphic way her figure is selectively emerging from the shadows reinforces that feel.

A very striking piece, sir! My only question now is...was that "AL14" vibrator standard equipment in 1980?

    1. Interesting! Hadn't thought of it that way, but I can definitely see what you mean about it resembling a sculpture. I was also trying to get a little sense of "moving while standing still," so I'm glad that worked out. As for the "AL14", all I can say is that I'd like to think that it works better than the "AL08," and is still in development.

    2. Oh, I have no doubt that the "AL14" model will continue to upgrade nicely!
